New Kent County Fair is proud to announce the 2013 Grand Marshals for this year are the mother and son duo of Phyllis and Michael Buchanan. They will serve as parade Grand Marshals on Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m. Phyllis (Moni) Buchanan is a retired nurse who then volunteered at New Kent Schools in clinics and also worked with special education classes for 13 years. She currently is part of the Quinton Volunteer Fire & EMS auxiliary team. Michael Buchanan has lived in New Kent since 1990. He served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves from 1979 until 1999. For the past 13 years, he has volunteered with the Providence Forge Volunteer Fire and Rescue since 2010 and was a member of the Quinton Volunteer Fire & EMS as an EMT/firefighter.
The New Kent County Fair Association's purpose "is to sponsor, co-ordinate, and promote an annual New Kent County Fair. The fair shall promote local citizen involvement, provide an arena for local exhibits (handicrafts, livestock, agricultural science, etc.), competitions, and create an educational environment which will help build a better community."
The New Kent County Fair Association is preparing for the 42nd annual county fair scheduled for Colonial Downs September 20-22. Miss New Kent County Fair Pageant and Friends of the Pageant information and applications are on the "Information and Forms" page. Girls between the ages of 5 and 21 are encouraged to participate. Deadline for applications is July 19th.
Applications and information on the 5K and Kids' Fun Run are also on the "Information and Forms" page. The races will take place on the Colonial Downs track beginning at 7PM on Friday, September 20th. In the 5K race, prizes are awarded according to age levels.
The fair is looking for vendors to sell items or to share information with the public. Several spaces have already been sold, but there are more available. Applications are on the "sponsors and vendors list" page.

Complete information about exhibit entries can be found on the "Information and Forms" page, and the booklet is also printed and available at Heritage Public Library, C&F Bank both in Providence Forge and at the New Kent Visitors' Center on Rt. 106 at I-64.
New this hear will be "Big Bingo", which offers a jackpot of $600 and will be held inside the building on Friday night, the area will be open at 6PM with the first of 14 games beginning at 7PM. Entrance fee is $30 with each game paying $50. You must be 18 years of age to participate; proceeds will go to the Quinton Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary, which will be operating the games.
